Ptarmigan
Similar to walked-up grouse, ptarmigan shooting takes place above 3000 feet where these beautiful birds live. Again hard walking, however the heather will not be such a challenge. Bags are small but well earned. Trying to shoot these birds when you are catching your breath is not easy.
Woodcock and Snipe
Either driven or walked-up, these birds are not only small but extremely difficult to hit. They live in marshy boggy terrain which makes the walking hard. Cartridges containing 9 shot and quick reactions are required. Bags are not large, however the reward is managing to shoot some of these beautiful birds.
Duck and Geese
Generally, their are two types of shooting. Firstly, a duck drive may be included within a pheasant shoot. Not to everyone’s taste but done correctly can be good fun.
The second type is shore shooting mostly run by wildfowling clubs. Hugely exciting but a specialist form of shooting that needs a professional guide to provide an rewarding morning out.
It must be noted that only a lead free shot must be used when shooting wildfowl; such as bismuth or steel
